Paul Whitfield takes Charlotte to court over Panthers' stadium funding
CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 2 () -- Whether the mayor and City Council of Charlotte, N.C., violated laws in arranging funding to improve the Carolina Panthers' stadium will go before a judge. Attorney Paul Whitfield entered Mecklenburg County, isabel marant online, N.C., Court House Tuesday to file a lawsuit, alleging closed sessions of the council earlier this year, leading to support of tax increase to pay for improvements to Bank of America Stadium, violated the state's Open Meetings Law, WSOC-TV, Charlotte, reported. Whitfield's suit, naming four Charlotte-area journalists as plaintiffs, asks a judge to rule the city in contempt of court, the Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported. In a closed meeting Jan. 14,parajumpers online shop, the council voted to support increasing the tax on local prepared food and beverages by 1 percent, providing $144 million of the $300 million Panthers officials say are needed for stadium improvements. Whitfield and his clients contend the meeting should have taken place in open session, the newspaper said.
