Resumes can be first step in not getting a job, CareerBuilder says
CHICAGO, Sept. 11 () -- How not to land a job can begin with a poorly written resume, where the gaffs are often glaring, a U.S. employment company said.In a survey of 2,076 hiring managers that was conducted May 14 through June 5 by Harris Interactive, some of the glaring mistakes were sent in as real-life examples of resume blunders, CareerBuilder said Wednesday. One resume, for example, was written in Klingon, a made up language invented for the television show "Star Trek."That would be a big bachHa', which is to err or make a mistake as listed at the Klingon Language Institute's website at [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] made mention of the job candidate's previous jail time received for assaulting a former supervisor, CareerBuilder said.Another resume called attention to the candidate's leadership skills. That would be fine, normally, but the leadership experience listed in the resume was leading warrior "clans" in an online video game, CareerBuilder said.In the survey, christian louboutin discount, 58 percent of the hiring managers listed typos as a common problem. Another 36 indicated resumes were too generic without displaying awareness of the specific job opening.Another 35 percent said resumes that did not list skills was a common problem. Thirty-two percent indicated that candidates cut and pasted wording from the job posting in their resume. Some resumes included incorrect addresses or phone numbers. Some job candidates forget to put their names on their resumes, CareerBuilder said. The results of the survey carry a margin of error of plus and minus up to 2.15 percentage points, Harris Interactive said.
